URBAN FOLDS Solo Exhibition by Mustafa Pancar

What I demonstrate is partly a kind of impression from inside the city; mostly regarding the human and our geometry, which we have invented. There is always a place for return and repetition in my works.

I am interested in delicate passages between setting objects upon each other and/or throwing them away. The scales and moments are what intrigue me. When I start to stroll in a city I feel the buildings placed in between past and future, and human being the most ephemeral amongst these. On the contrary the environment, which was created by us, forms and material world are more permanent. I think of this permanence as survived by ‘’capsule’s’’ (the most purified-distilled form of tradition), which are transmitted throughout the generations. If the human thought has a chance to become continuous, it could be, for instance, shaped as the form of a capsule; abstract ideas (these capsules are my casts which put my visual memory in a mold, pouring it with the form of fluency and having them concrete at the end of process) architecture, abstract art etc. are among those. Contemporary art is still busy giving an effort to wave the capsule of its own and later thrown into the future. When I look at a Metropolis I can see all these procession of material worlds, which I mention here. The layers of traditional modern architectural together with construction and engineering are woven over the earth as delicate as a spider.

I am simply interested in these architectural capsules and kind of peeling off or separating them. I basically wanted to use this motto with a way as both making a relief, forming the concave and convex elements and pictorial representations through my collages. In addition to that; I used color blocks and clichés cast into molds. The more fluid process emerged arbitrarily alongside the framed structures of buildings, which are of solid geometry. What occurred mostly is the contradiction between the linear geometrical one and the arbitrarily - folding lines. I assume that there is always a tendency to figurativeness in all-organic lines. Colours here assist to dissolute the frame of structure with an intervention as a non-linear element.

In this series architectural forms incline to be both definitive linear elements and coincidental with a paternal process and waywardness. The collage stripes are simultaneously a narration of forms in the surface of essential solid structures.

I am interested in the buildings, in the sense of the massiveness of form and surface, I am also drawn to the organic displacement and fractures throughout.

Together with the collage works, and including the building facade sculptures they reach to form a narrative between themselves. Talkative fragments include the pieces of my memory. The various materials in the exhibition are related to my former experiences. They are the remains emerged throughout my artistic progression; hence they contain their own reason and individual complexity. Plaster, collage and drawings have been explored over a long period of studio practice. This accumulation of various ideas is used to make lines or something like a fracture in my recollection, however all the elements stand together in order to create its own story; figures, buildings, nature etc. My works are looking towards the present time and have created the body of my show. This narrative mostly happens, takes place, on curving, bending and folding of lines upon each other throughout every piece of work.
